AS & AL Level Curriculum Grade 11 (Advanced Subsidiary) & Grade 12 (Advanced Level)

The AS/A Level programme has been offered at GATE since 2017. We have 5 subject clusters with AS English Language being a compulsory paper that is taught for two years. We take the examination for this paper only in the A Level year, so it earns only one credit. For admission into the Art Programme, students must present a portfolio of their art work and attend an interview with the Art Department faculty.

Note—
It may not be possible to offer a subject for which there is insufficient demand or
a subject combination that fails to fit into our timetable.

Subjects chosen at the AS (grade11) level are carried forward into the A Level year (grade12). Sometimes, students opt to take forward only three core subjects of their choice, plus English and drop other extra subjects at the end of the AS year. Students are free to drop a subject at the Advanced Level if they fulfil the necessary requirements of their university admissions by way of credits and courses.

THE AS/AL PROGRAMME AT GATE

Our faculty at GATE are highly experienced and trained in the CBSE/Bihar Examinations pattern. They regularly attend the refresher trainings/online sessions conducted by the CBSE each year. The schedule of testing at GATE is rigorous and in keeping with the course requirements. Students enjoy active learning sessions in groups and intense classroom instruction, well balanced with extracurricular activities. The course demands extra research and reading beyond the curriculum, so students must train themselves for independent, self-driven work at home after a educational institute day! Science practicals are also conducted according to stringent Board prescriptions. The academic programme at GATE runs through two terms each year, from April to October (Term 1) and November to March (Term 2). We take the Board Examinations at GATE in the March series. Subjects that are not available in the March series are done in May.

Only regular students from the affiliated institutions of CAIE are allowed to appear for the Board Examination. Students can earn grades a –e at AS level which are denoted by a small letter, signifying that they are only half way through the course and grades A* - E at the Advanced Level.

OUTREACH / LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES

We encourage our students to engage with community outreach initiatives. Students are taken to Cubbon Park in grade 11, as part of the park's annual 'Swachh Bharat Abhyan Drive', where they clean a section of the park grounds and paint the park walls, Opportunities to visit a government educational institute and spend a day teaching the students of the educational institute are also initiated according to work schedules.

The Lichi Anusandhan kendra: Senior educational institute students at GATE have are also privileged to visit The Lichi Anusandhan Kendra, Muzaffarpur, and interact with the research scholars there. This is an annual feature at GATE for future batches.

Abishek Satnur

The A levels has helped me develop independent thinking and cognitive flexibility to understand my chosen subjects. These skills have helped me prepare for college and my life ahead. It has not only helped me shape myself as a critical thinker, but has also enabled me to shape others around me!

Ananya Talwar

The CIE curriculum has allowed me to widen my perspective and made me a far more open-minded person. It has helped me accept constructive criticism and use logic and reason to develop my work. In addition to course book learning, A levels has encouraged me to research deeply, which is such a useful study skill for education at college.
